AimHigher
Aimhigher is a national programme which aimed to widen participation in higher education (HE) by raising the aspirations of young people from underrepresented communities. Having supported various outreach activities across the UK, Aimhigher were seeking a new, innovative way to engage and inspire young people.
The Aimhigher Roadshow was created and as a recent graduate, Gemma joined the team as lead facilitator. As a first-generation university student, from a working-class background, Gemma shared her challenges and triumphs (including gaining work experience on film and tv sets) to inspire young people to reach their full potential, regardless of their backgrounds.
Having visited over 150 schools in the space of 9 months, Gemma was recognised by the department of Business, Innovation and Skills for successfully engaging over 12,000 ‘hard to reach’ students across the UK.
Following this, Gemma went on to lead the Aimhigher /Gifted and Talented calendar of events in partnership with all secondary schools across Sheffield, South Yorkshire.
